Big Rig District Races

0

Adding to the great traditions of Pinewood Derby, Seminole Springs first ever unfiied District Pinewood Derby will also include a brand new category of racing – BIG RIGS !!! BSA has commissioned a 100th anniversary Big Rig kit, so that got our wheels turning regarding having these monster rigs racing down the track. You dp NOT have to use this kit as the basis for your rig, but you SHOULD decorate your "Pack" entry to represent your unit… Pack number, pictures of your mascot, etc.

Here are some design parameters:

No longer than 18"

No taller than 4 5/8"

No wider than 3"

Weight not to exceed 850 grams

Other than trailer/cab pin and axles, all wood construction. The two sections (cab and trailer) of the 18 wheeler must be able to be separated, and the cab section must also be able to move through 180 degrees.

WHEELS: Only the wheels provided in the kit may be used. Wheels that have been sanded excessively will be disqualified from racing. Axles may be polished and any spur removed, but washers or bushings must not be used.

FINISHES:  The Pack number and Year should be written on the bottom of the truck.

SUSPENSION: The 18-Wheeler must be free wheeling and shall not ride on any springs or use any self starting device or any means of propulsion.

ATTATCHMENTS: Any design can be built — use your imagination — as long as the 18-wheeler is within the specifications as shown above — any extra material or parts are acceptable as long as they are safe and secure.

LUBRICATION: Any lubricant can be used. NO LUBRICATION may be added after the 18-wheeler has been weighed in and put into the Pit Area.

REPAIRS: If repairs are required, they must be approved and monitored by the Pit Officials.

    Notable Qoutables

Scouting exposes young men to people and experiences that encourage and nurture positive moral values. But we mustn’t take Scouting for granted. You can do nothing more important for young people today than to continue, or begin, your support of Scouting. I have never met anyone with devoted Scouting experience who was not a solid citizen, a loyal friend, and a patriot. We need more of them. — Wallace G. Wilkinson, former Governor of Kentucky
