Leave No Trace Backpacking Trek

0

Dear Boy Scouts (Youth and Leaders),

Have you registered for this weekend’s Leave No Trace Backpacking Trek during this year’s Boy Scout Extravaganza?  You still have a day or so to sign up! In the event you have already registered, please see the details below. Thank you! Leave-No-Trace Backpacking excursion – Starting on Friday evening and thru Sunday mid-morning, an outstanding adventure has been developed to explore sections of LaNoChe and the Florida Trail not often seen by most Scouts.

Explore some of the more remote and newer parts of the LaNoChe reservation and camp. Participants of this event will camp at LaNoChe proper Friday (dinner is not available at camp) and then following a hearty breakfast in the LaNoChe dining hall as part of the registration fee, trekkers will head out of LaNoChe (on foot) for a wonderful day of backpacking and then they will spend Saturday night on the LaNoChe Ranch utilizing Leave No Trace principles while sharing a unique experience offered just once each year at LaNoChe.

Although the length of the backpacking trip is variable depending upon the group, the length of the backpack trek will likely backpack between 3 – 5 miles on Saturday and then approximately 2 – 3 miles on Sunday; possibly more. It is anticipated the group will return to the LaNoChe dining hall about 11 am on Sunday where participants can enjoy lunch in the dining hall and then join the ongoing activities.

Participants are required to provide all of their own backpacking equipment (tent, backpack, stove, pots for cooking as applicable, sleeping bags, etc.) and food (for Saturday Lunch and Dinner & Sunday Breakfast).  LaNoChe does not supply materials for the outdoor adventure, thus participants must be 100% self sufficient from the time we leave LaNoChe proper (Saturday after breakfast) until the return (Sunday mid-AM).  Participants should have at least 2 quarts of water in their backpacks; additional water will be available at our campsite.
