0

If you are a Webelos leader or parent who will want to be active with your son’s troop after his spring crossover, please check out the training opportunities listed below for both Troop Committee members and Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmasters.

Listed below are all of the Boy Scout Leader Position Specific courses (Scoutmaster Position Specific and Troop Committee Position Specific) available around Central Florida Council through June 2010. Information listed below includes all classes as reported to the Council Training Committee as of April 15th. As additional information is received, it will be added to future promotional announcements. All districts are asked to send their complete training schedules to Nell Colbert at necolbert@usa.net as soon as possible.

The courses below are listed by date along with information on how to register for these classes as well as who to contact if you have questions.

If you changed positions in your unit this year, are a new Boy Scout parent/leader or were not able to get your training completed last fall, here’s a wonderful way to make sure that your son and his friends have a fantastic program – attend the training you need so that you will have a better time as a leader and your scouts will have more FUN! It’s never too late to get the training you need J

Remember – every boy deserves a trained leader.

Prior registration for all training sessions is REQUIRED in order to allow each training team to adequately prepare handouts and other materials used during the trainings. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL – please register through the contact information listed for the particular district in which you would like to attend training.

Scouters are encouraged to attend training in any district – just pick a date and location that is convenient for you and register for that training as noted below.

TROOP COMMITTEE POSITION SPECIFIC TRAINING (Troop Committee Challenge):

There are no Troop Committee training classes scheduled until October 2010

Position Specific Training is the next step in training beyond Fast Start, Youth Protection and This is Scouting. Every leader needs to take the position specific training for your position in Boy Scouting, regardless of your prior training or experience, in order to complete your required basic training to be considered fully trained for your position and eligible to wear the trained strip on your uniform. Position specific training should be taken each time you change positions in your troop.

The information above applies to those leaders serving our Boy Scout Troops. Information on Cub Scout Leader Position Specific and all outdoor training opportunities will be sent out in separate emails.

If the information for your district is not listed here, please contact your Training Chair or your District Executive for more information. As information from more districts is received, it will be shared.

If the dates this training is offered in your own district do not fit into your personal schedule, please look at the dates this course is available in neighboring districts and pick a date that works for you. Leaders may take training in any district.

Please remember – a scout is courteous: If you will not be able to attend a training session for which you register, please remember to cancel your registration so that your slot may be opened up to someone else who would like to attend.

    Notable Qoutables

The Boy Scouts of America has something going for it that all the government welfare programs in America can’t match: success. Besides families and religion, Scouting is probably this country’s single best program for building character in boys, and has been for nearly a century. — The Times Leader, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
