Eagle Encampment 2009

0

Dear Central Florida Council Scouters,

WOW!  I have heard from a few different sources there is a rumor circulating regarding Eagle Encampment.  Rumor has it that we are full!  I’m here to tell you…not yet!  We still have plenty of space, although registrations are coming in nearly every day.  Please don’t procrastinate if you want to attend.  Register today!  Please see below for the details.

Thank you,

Steve Eisinger

Dear Central Florida Council Scouters,

Next year marks the second time Troop 210 from Winter Garden will be privileged to lead the Air Conditioned Eagle Encampment for the Central Florida Council, taking place at Camp Joy in Apopka.  The event occurs June 7 – 12, 2009.

To the wonderful adults who helped with this year’s event, you already know it was an over the top event and we enthusiastically influenced the lives of 60+ future Eagle Scouts.  For those 60+ Scouts and adults who attended this year, congratulations on being part of our inaugural event.  It was a HUGE hit for everyone!

Sean Scott, Bob Karney and I are once again planning the next Air Conditioned Eagle Encampment and for 2009 we’ve been strategizing since August (this year) to ensure we incorporate our learnings from 2008 to put together an improved Eagle Encampment for 2009.  Among other aspects, we are in the midst of recruiting adults to help us.  In terms of the big picture, we expect to have 100 participants at Eagle Encampment 2009 so I am just going to throw out the sales pitch to the adults within our Council at this point…Can you please give us some of your time next year?  How?  It’s easy…

We need merit badge counselors for

·        Citizenship in the Community

·        Citizenship in the World

·        Citizenship in the Nation

·        Communications

·        Personal Management

·        Family Life

Additionally, we are looking for adults offering “helping hands” because there are too many tasks for the three of us to accomplish during the event.  We are also seeking Assistant Scoutmasters (21+ years old) to work with participants for the week.  Along with the “classic” adults (ok, I can use the term “classic” since I fall into that category…as in over 21 years old), we have a very special call for Eagle Scouts 18 – 21 years old who would like to spend the week guiding our participants.  If anyone is interested in these roles and would like to speak to one of our leaders from this year’s event before committing, please let me know…arrangements will be made.

Air conditioned quarters and delicious restaurant quality food is FREE for all staff (meaning there is not a registration fee of any amount).  The three square meals each day are served all-you-can-eat style.  We also enjoy special “social” nights including ice cream with mega-toppings as well as other fun themed nightly events.  Again, all of the merit badge sessions, eating and sleeping quarters take place in air conditioned buildings.  Ahhhhh!

We are seeking volunteers to stay with us for one day, two days, three days…etc., up through the entire event.

Please note all staff (and participants) must be BSA registered and we would like to see adults in full uniform.  Let’s lead by example.

In closing, I have one question for you.  Can you please give us some of your time?  Please zap me a note with your availability and by the way, not only are the air conditioned accommodations and delicious food FREE for the staff at Eagle Encampment, the staff also receives a limited and highly prized Eagle Encampment non-cotton t-shirt and an Eagle Encampment hat!

What do you say?

By the way, for the youth, the 2009 Eagle Encampment registration has been open for one month.  Please see below for details.

Thank you,

Steve Eisinger

Dear Central Florida Council Boy Scouts,

As a follow up to the note below from August 18th, I’m thrilled to announce that the Second Annual Air Conditioned Eagle Encampment registration is OPEN!

The 2009 program is better than ever and specifically caters to 14 year old Scouts who are First Class, Star and Life Rank (as of next June).

Not only is the Air Conditioned Eagle Encampment an excellent opportunity for Scouts to learn and earn key Eagle Rank required merit badges, there are numerous Eagle Rank consultants who will be on hand to provide mentorship for all steps of the Eagle Trail.  It is important to note that numerous pre-requisites are required prior to Eagle Encampment in order for participants to achieve the fullest success at the event; however 2008’s inaugural event was a smash hit and it produced record results in terms of earned merit badge completions!  The pre-requisites are described in the participant guide and to reiterate, only those Scouts willing to work for their results need apply – this event is not for those looking for a summer camp experience where they can slack off all the time.   This event is geared for Scouts truly interested in making a serious dent in their Trail to Eagle requirements in less than one week (following completion of their pre-requisites).  One thing is certain though, there is plenty of “free” time at camp and last year’s participants told me that the Air Conditioned Eagle Encampment was THE highlight of their summer.

Oh, at the heart of this event is an incredible staff.  Last year’s staff was arguably the best within hundreds of miles and we’ve already heard from several who can hardly wait to return.  By the way, since we are expanding the program this year, we still have a handful of staff openings.  If there are adults (18+) reading this message who are interested in helping, please contact Bob Karney [(407) 625-4898] to jump in.  Our staff members always camp for free [includes air conditioned cabin, food and other great perks!).

Scouts, please do not procrastinate in registering for this event and new this year: a custom made collectable Eagle Encampment hat is included in the registration fee along with two Eagle Encampment t-shirts (voted “most cool” at last year’s event), which will be the envy of your Scout-mates.  All of that on top of all-you-can-eat “teenager size” portions of amazing food served three times each day, several cracker barrels, air conditioned learning areas AND air conditioned sleeping quarters AND real showers AND a pool, among other amazing amenities.  All in all, this is a premium event which has garnered interest from other Councils…do not delay in registering today!  Tell your friends too!

Follow the links below for the flyer, program guide and the online registration.  It is imperative that all participants view and print the entire program guide because pertinent details are contained in it which should not be overlooked.

    Notable Qoutables

Scouting exposes young men to people and experiences that encourage and nurture positive moral values. But we mustn’t take Scouting for granted. You can do nothing more important for young people today than to continue, or begin, your support of Scouting. I have never met anyone with devoted Scouting experience who was not a solid citizen, a loyal friend, and a patriot. We need more of them. — Wallace G. Wilkinson, former Governor of Kentucky
