For reference, below is the information distributed at the 2008 University of Scouting regarding the requirements for earning advanced degrees.
EARNING ADVANCED DEGREES
The Master’s and Doctoral Process
To prepare you for what will be expected for next year, here are some hints based on the 2008 requirements for advanced degrees:
2009 MASTERS DEGREE CANDIDATES
You must take the Trainers EDGE course (or have an unexpired Trainers Development Conference certification) BEFORE the 2009 University of Scouting as this is a requirement for admission into the graduate program. Trainer’s EDGE courses are usually scheduled two or three times each year – once in the fall, once in the spring and once over the summer months with locations generally in the Metro Orlando area and on the Space Coast. Watch your district’s YahooGroup for announcements as to dates, times and locations.
Another requirement for the advanced degrees is to serve at least one class hour during the 2009 University of Scouting program as either an instructor or a member of the on-site support staff. Please contact Colleen Wetzel, the 2009 President, to let her know of your desire to serve NOT LATER THAN APRIL 1ST 2009 as all instructional staff must be in place before May 1st for the 2009 University of Scouting.
Enroll in and attend one of the scheduled Masters Seminars during the 2009 University of Scouting as this is required for your degree and will help you prepare for your next step – your PhD.
2009-2010 DOCTORAL DEGREE CANDIDATES
You must also have a current TDC or Trainer’s EDGE certificate. Trainers EDGE replaced TDC this year and must be renewed every two years – be sure that yours will be current for the 2009 and 20109 Universities of Scouting.
The Doctoral program spans two Universities of Scouting. For those entering the Doctoral Program for 2009, as with the Masters program, you will need to serve at least one class hour during the 2009 University of Scouting program as either an instructor or a member of the on-site support staff. Please contact Colleen Wetzel, the 2009 President, to let her know of your desire to serve NOT LATER THAN APRIL 1ST 2009 as all instructional staff must be in place before May 1st for the 2009 University of Scouting.
Enroll in and attend one of the scheduled PhD 101 Seminars during the 2009 University of Scouting as this is required for your degree and will help you prepare for your next step – developing the class that you will teach at the 2010 University of Scouting.
There will be a mid-year meeting of all candidates planning to earn their PhD at the 2010 University of Scouting in the March-April 2010 time frame. You will receive the date for this mid-year progress meeting when you attend the PhD 101 seminar at the 2009 University of Scouting.
